Home    Holiday Parties – Is Your Home Ready?

The holidays are officially here, which means festive dinners, ugly sweater parties and family get-togethers. If you’re planning on hosting one of these gatherings, you may want to make sure you and your home are ready. Here’s a list of a few ways you can prepare to host holiday parties.

Front Door

First impressions are important. When your guests walk in the front door, you want them to feel welcomed and at home. Make sure the entryway is swept and clean and shake out your welcome mat. Place a few decorations or a fresh bouquet of flowers by the door, and have a place for your guests to hang up their coats and take off their shoes (if you prefer them to not wear shoes).

Whether the kitchen is the main hub of your party or not, you want to clean and declutter it. Have the counters clear so that the food and drinks have a place to go. Are your guests are bringing food or drinks to share? Make it obvious where they can place them.

If you’re planning on having a formal dinner, have the table set and ready to go. If it’s more casual, have all the eating utensils out and easy to find.

Living Room

Because it will likely be an area where your guests will spend most of their time, you’ll want to have it ready and comfortable. Be sure to have enough seating, but don’t crowd the room. You don’t want to cram in so many chairs that people can’t walk or stand anywhere. If you have activities/games planned, have room for them. If you’re planning on it just being a social event, make sure that the room is set up so that your guests can easily chat and chill.

Check your A/C and heater to make sure that they’re working. You don’t want your guests too cold or too hot (ugly sweaters tend to warm you up real quick).

Have fun with the decorations! This is a holiday party!

This is an area of your home that will likely be seen by many of your guests, but is easily forgotten by hosts.

Clean it and make it smell good! Maybe include a candle or a bouquet of flowers. Also be sure to have a plunger easy to find and extra toilet paper and a trash can.
