Home    Pros and Cons of Using a Realtor

Whether buying or selling a home, you have the option to do it with a Realtor, a real estate agent, or none of the above. What’s the best option? I know you probably hear all the time that you need to have an agent of some kind, but is that true? And should you have a Realtor vs. a real estate agent? Let me get honest with you and give you the pros and cons of working with a Realtor and then let you decide if working with a Realtor is worth it.

CONS

You have to pay them if your selling. A percentage of the revenue from your home sale will go to the agent(s) involved (the one you hire to sell, and the potential one involved with the buyers). The home sellers pay the agent(s).

You have to deal with a middle man. If you want to see a home, you have to go through your agent. They’ll then talk to the sellers and set up a time. Whether buying or selling, you don’t just talk to the other party, the agent will do that for you.

More listing paperwork if you use an agent. If you’re looking to list your home. Doing so with an agent has more paperwork than if you do it as a “for sale by owner.”

PROS

You don’t have to pay them if you’re buying. If you’re looking to purchase a  home, hiring an agent doesn’t cost you a dime! We handle all the scheduling and help you with the paperwork and negotiating, yet you don’t owe us anything. So why not use a Realtor?

You have a middle man. Yes, this may mean that you have to coordinate with someone else, but let’s be honest, do you really want to handle calling all the agents and sellers/buyers to schedule showing times and negotiating? Why not let someone who works in the industry every day handle that?

Help with paperwork. Real estate paperwork can be confusing, especially with all that jargon (even the “for sale by owner” paperwork), but you won’t have to figure it out alone. We will help you with all the paperwork and make sure you understand what you’re doing. We will also help you with the negotiating and making sure you get a great deal! We know what would be fair and reasonable!

Advertising of your home if you’re selling. When selling your home, we handle putting it out on the market. We’ll put it up on the MLS and on our website. Along with email blasts, and signage, we’ll then push it out to our social media pages (where we have over 2,000 followers). We will use our own money to advertise your home to anyone and everyone! Realtors have a higher code of ethics than Real Estate Agents. So what is the difference between a Realtor and a Real Estate Agent? We’re both licensed to sell real estate, but us Realtors belong to the National Association of REALTORS® and are held to a higher code of ethics than real estate agents, which is strictly enforced. We are dedicated to you and helping you have a positive experience. Click here to see a list of all that Realtors promise to do.
